Elite Dangerous posted a video today that talks about a few major updates, including the Type-11 Prospector ship, a brand new explorer ship, and a major new feature to the game!
Let’s take a look…
New Explorer Ship
If you know me at all, you probably already know that I’m most excited over this new explorer ship…
Notes:
- Did somebody say Star Trek? The disc shaped front half of the ship looks like it was taken directly from the Star Trek universe. 🖖
- Large sized ship, but with landing gear that takes up a small area, making landing on planets much easier.
- Strangely enough, the main interior also looks like it’s from Star Trek.
- There’s something special about the hull plating – I think its a hexagonal pattern, and officially they didn’t say anything about it, but rumors are flying around about it being meant for thicker atmospheres, maybe even earth-like atmosphere!
- It’s implied that neutron jumping will be better in this ship, “taking it to a whole new level”.
Type-11 Prospector
Notes:
- You can go to elitedangerous.com/prospector to learn more about this ship, including the new “Galactic Edition” which includes the very first animated holo kit.
- There’s a new “MKII Mining Limpet Controller” which allows up to 14 limpets to be going at the same time, and can fire both collector and prospector limpets.
- There’s also a new “Mining Volley Repeater” which fires specially designed projectiles to maximize the number of fragments extracted, resulting in a higher yield when laser mining. Additionally, it has a chance to produce higher density fragments similar to those found via abrasion point mining.
New Feature Coming
Notes:
- This is a new set of multi-phase scenarios, designed to be both on-foot and in space, for up to 4 commanders to overcome challenging obstacles.
- They are repeatable, and have multiple difficulty levels, as well as reward you with hard to obtain rewards.
“Dodec” Station Type
Notes:
- The dodec station type is originally from a previous Elite game.
- Has a higher population and standard of living.
- Features a human tech broker.
- Originally, it was only going to be available via the game store, but this idea has now been rolled back (post screenshotted below)
